I'm often asked what my favourite surf destination is.

After more than 25 years of sharing surfing with others, it's a difficult question to answer. Every destination I visit is special for different reasons. Life onboard is effortless. The food is exceptional, with the chef preparing a changing menu of Western and regional dishes each day, catering to all dietary requirements. The crew of 21 are outstanding, delivering a level of service and attention to detail that continually impresses my guests.

The best way I can describe the experience is that it feels like stepping into your own National Geographic documentary.

Beyond Surfing: Diving, Snorkelling and Island Exploration

The scenery is breathtaking. Remote islands, crystal-clear water, untouched reefs and not another boat in sight. Between surfs, guests can snorkel or dive over some of the healthiest coral reefs I've ever seen, hike to spectacular viewpoints overlooking the islands, or simply relax on a deserted beach while the crew creates a private beach setup for the afternoon.

There is genuinely something for everyone.

And then there is the surfing.

One of the things I love most about this region is how uncrowded it is. It's not uncommon to share perfect waves with just your family and friends, cheering each other into wave after wave without another surfer around.

The waves themselves are what I like to call high-performance fun. Quality waves that are exciting and rewarding without being intimidating. There are options for a wide range of abilities, and compared to many other parts of Indonesia, the waves here are generally far more user-friendly.

For those who would rather spend their energy surfing than paddling, the yacht carries two jet skis to assist with access and maximise time in the water.

When Is the Best Time for a Luxury Surf Trip to the Spice Islands?

The prime season runs from December through March, when North Pacific winter storms generate long-period swells that light up the region. Combined with generally light winds, it creates incredibly fun surf and ideal conditions for exploring.

What keeps bringing me back, though, isn't just the waves.

It's the feeling.

Life slows down out here. Days are simple. You surf, eat well, spend time with great people and wake up each morning excited about what the day might bring.
